MISSION EMPHASIS

The Harvest is plentiful but the Laborers are few!!!

The Mission Ministry is in need of a few GOOD People who are willing to do what we do.  So, you ask what is a missionary? Missionaries are individuals who are willing to serve and help others, visit the sick, encourage the low in spirit, feed the hungry, seek shelter for the homeless, helping the needy everywhere.  You might ask who needs us?  Well there are many children preparing to return to school now still in need of school supplies, and school clothes, many of our seniors simply need an item picked up from the grocery store or a ride to the store to shop, or a ride to keep a doctor appointment.  And then there are our sisters and brothers in Haiti, Africa and even Afghanistan where the earthquakes and floods are still affecting their lives just to name a few.  Just in case you are wondering who some of the great missionaries were in the bible, Jesus is number one and we all know about Paul journey and the many places he went after his experience on the Damascus Road, along with our sisters Phebe and Dorcas, John, Peter, Mark, Timothy, and Luke just to name a few from the new Testament.   Currently there are three mission circles in our congregation who serve under the umbrella of the General Mission with Mother Bertha Caldwell as president.

Circle #1 and Circle #2 – Focus is to visits with our sick and shut-in, visiting them both in their homes, hospital and the nursing homes while other members help at various meal sites where the elderly is served.  Circle #2 also works with the prison ministry at the County Jail and the Correctional Center South formerly known as the House of Correction. The clothing bank and food pantry is coordinated by the Rev. Pauline Brand, with support from volunteers of this congregation.  .

The Nanny Williams circle Emphasis and concentration is on the children and youth.  The circle has been actively purchasing school supplies for the pass 10 years, sponsoring “Love in a Box for children who parent are incarcerated and they have also supported a clothing bank for Lafollette Elementary School and Forrest Home school.  The Circle has done other outreach for children who have face chronic illnesses and surgery.
